Nicholls' self-proclaimed fashion police hit the Internet

  • Blair Albarez, freshman from Brusly, shows off her Nike athletic shorts in the Student Union on Monday afternoon.

Two Nicholls students plan to take their fashion enforcement program to the web by launching their own YouTube reality show titled "The Strike Team."

John Godfrey, marketing senior from New Orleans, and Christopher Mukes, education junior from New Orleans, have already begun to team up on Thursday mornings in front of the Student Union as The Strike Team, also known as The Fashion Police.

It is their self-proclaimed job to correct fashion gone wrong, or as they say, "fashion gone pecan," by giving out citations stating the fashion offense each person commits.

"Every generation has its trailblazers," Mukes said. "And we just so happen to be those two trailblazers who recognize fashion gone wrong."

The Strike Team stated that they want students to treat any citation they may receive as a diagnosis of their lack of fashion sense.

"The citations are to diagnose the Nicholls community of their fashion," Godfrey said. "Hopefully they can take that diagnosis, and it will alter their fashion decisions when they decide to come outside next time."

According to The Strike Team,, students are now in violation of the fashion code if they have Ed Hardy clothing.

"Ed Hardy is a no-no now, unless you are Italian and on Jersey Shore," Mukes said.

Teachers should also beware of The Strike Team, because they also are at risk of receiving a citation.

"I just gave a citation to one of my teachers the other day," Mukes recalled.

As for footwear, The Strike Team have dubbed Reebok, Sarcony's and K Swiss on the "don't list."

As for the ladies, The Strike Team only permits those with the appropriate body type to wear leggings or jeggings.

"The citation would be based upon your body, such as your butt," Godfrey explained. "The citation would be ‘false advertising of the buttocks.' "

Since The Strike Team has been handing out these citations, they find that the style of the University as a whole has improved dramatically.

"The fashion has gotten extremely better," Godfrey said. "I just saw this guy the other day that we gave a ticket to for excessive flapping of the tongue of his shoes, and his shoes are now being strung up tightly."

The Strike Team would like for students to express themselves freely when it comes to fashion, but they also want to make sure that everyone is meeting what they feel are proper fashion guidelines.

"We love the way we dress, and we want everyone else to love the way they dress, but they have to meet all specific guidelines," Godfrey said.

Aside from being fashion enforcers of the Nicholls community, The Strike Team is also a part of Kampus Smakk, a local entertainment group based in the Thibodaux area showcasing the talents of musicians, actors and dancers. The Strike Team plans to showcase their comedic talents on a self-titled YouTube show, which will be featured on the Kampus Smakk YouTube channel.

"You can watch us acting as campus security guards giving citations for little funny stuff," Godfrey said. "It is just something to keep the campus entertained."

Kampus Smakk also sells their own brand of clothing.

The trailer of the upcoming series "The Strike Team" can be found on the Kampus Smakk YouTube channel titled "kampussmakk" under the name "Kampus Smakk Films Presents The Strike Team."
