A timetable has not been set for the construction of the recreation center since the state reached an agreement in July with Acadia Agricultural Holdings LLC for the University to acquire about 77 acres of land east of Bowie Road. Over 100 people attended the opening and dedication of the newly renovated Vernon F. Galliano Cafeteria Aug. 16. The cafeteria name derives from Vernon F. Galliano, the University's second president from 1963-1983. During his presidency he created a plan laying out the appearance of the campus in the future.
The Thibodaux community may now see smoother traffic since the opening of the East Thibodaux Corridor where North Acadia Road and South Acadia Road were converted into one-way streets with lanes going west and east, respectively. ST. FRANCISVILLE - The Louisiana Supreme Court has been asked to decide whether Gov. Kathleen Blanco should be forced to testify in the negligent homicide trial of the owners of a nursing home where 35 patients died in Hurricane Katrina's floodwaters. Lawyers for the state have fought the subpoena that defense lawyers used to summon the governor to the witness stand.
