The University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors voted in April to acquire the La Maison du Bayou apartment complex from Collegiate Management Services, which will be managed by the University through Residence Life beginning in August. Mike Davis, assistant vice president of administration, said the board is exercising an option in the original lease documents with the present owner of La Maison, Collegiate Management Services, which allows it to acquire the property.
As Nicholls' dean of Student Life prepares to leave the University, she reflects on her memories of her first day on campus; it was a day when she experienced two things Nicholls usually gives to students, faculty, staff members and visitors- a courteous, sociable environment and a parking ticket.
While the majority of Nicholls students most likely spent intercession working, planning their summer vacation, preparing for summer classes or a combination of these activities, six students from the University Honors Program embarked on a quest to jolly ol' England in search of knowledge and culture.
Greek recruitment has gone through some minor changes for fall 2007 but looks promising according to the Greek adviser. "The interest is there. We just have to work it," Greek adviser Tom Stephens said. Rather than hold recruitment events before the start of the fall semester as the organizations had traditionally done, Stephens said, they are planning to hold the events after classes have already begun.
Through several local and federal agencies the university farm has begun growing locally adapted native plant materials for restoration, conservation and re-vegetation purposes for both public and private sectors' use. Nicholls is just one of many organizations participating in the Louisiana Native Plant Initiative which collects, preserves, increases and studies native plant materials in hopes to conserve a vanishing natural resource and develop a native plant seed industry, according to the memorandum between the groups.
WASHINGTON - American Indian tribes throughout the country will receive 2,000 unused trailers that were intended for but never given to Hurricane Katrina victims. Thousands of trailers have been idling in Arkansas and Texas, prompting criticism about government waste.

Campus power to be interrupted On July 4 from 6 a.m. until noon it will necessary to interrupt electrical power to the entire campus in order to complete an electrical switch over in conjunction with the cafeteria renovation. La Maison du Bayou will not be effected by this work, and the generator at Computer Services will be utilized so that internet service and E-mail service will not be interrupted.
