Under muggy, windy and cloudy skies on Monday, the Colonels football team strapped on their gear and conducted their first practice of spring training 2004.
Nicholls' Donny Schmitt, freshman from Baton Rouge, fired an opening round of 71 after the first 18 holes to finish tied for sixth overall at the Sam Houston State Men's Golf Invitational held at Raven's Nest Golf Club, a 6,943-yard par 72 course.
But when it comes time to play baseball, none of his teammates joke about Prejean's quiet-natured mentality or toughness. As the Colonels' No. 1 pitcher, Prejean currently leads the team with 25 strikeouts. He has a 6.39 ERA and has allowed only one home run this season.
"A lot of guys in the league have all the size and speed, but they don't have reaction to the ball," Detillier said. "Chris does, and he has good football reaction skill. I like that, and I think that is a huge part of playing NFL football."
The match marked the first time the Lady Colonels tennis team has played at Nicholls in nearly two years.
