Lawrence Boucvalt III filed a legal petition April 3 against Nicholls student William Ledbetter III after a March 6 incident in which Ledbetter was allegedly charged with one count of second-degree battery.

According to the petition filed, Ledbetter, 22, along with the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, Mu Zeta chapter was served and made defendants.

Administration, SGA taking step to create mascot

The Student Government Association accepted an offer from University President Stephen Hulbert to hire a consultant to advise the University on creating a new mascot.

Alex Barnes, SGA vice president and president-elect, said Hulbert offered to hire a consultant and have the University pay for it.

State's senior senator to address graduates on commencement

Nicholls will graduate 523 students for the spring commencement ceremonies May 17 in which Sen. Mary Landrieu D-La. will be the principal speaker.

The first ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. for graduates of the College of Business Administration, the College of Education and University College.

Olinda Ricard, sociology senior from Kileen, Texas, and Alex Barnes, government senior from New Orleans, were announced as Mr. and Ms. Nicholls Thursday at the Student Programming Association's annual Crawfish Day.

Ricard describes her experience at Nicholls:

Q: How would you sum up your experience at Nicholls in one sentence?

A: I am convinced my experiences at Nicholls have provided me with the types of opportunities that are irreplaceable, incomparable and more rewarding than I could have hoped for.

Nicholls taps Johnson as new dean of Student Life

Rushton Johnson Jr. of Jackson, Miss., has been named dean of student life and assistant to the vice president of student affairs at Nicholls State University effective July 1, pending approval by the Board of Supervisors of the University of Louisiana System.

Tennis aces season, heads to playoffs

Under the direction of second-year head coach Jim Hunter, the Nicholls men's tennis team will travel to Nacogdoches, Texas this weekend to play in the first round of the Southland Conference Tournament.

The first round playoff game will mark the first time in four years the men's tennis team has gone into post-season play.

So this is it, that thing called graduation, the culmination of all my scholastic endeavors since I began Lads and Lassies Nursery school, a pre-school where ABCs were taught in Cajun French first then English.

Looking back on all those popsicle stick houses, term papers and stressful final exams, I am glad it's over; I repeat: I am glad it's over.

Most affairs at a college require signatures and permission, but Nicholls' paper trails have gotten out of hand.

A paper trail, in this instance, means unnecessary or excessive paperwork, which usually slows down whatever people are trying to get done.

A recipe for graduates to have in the future

Graduating seniors, as I have for the past few years, I reserve the column of this last Nicholls Worth of the spring semester in homage to you.

Instead of offering you advice for the future, or suggesting how to best to spend your long-awaited graduation day and of reminding you about the people who got you to this glorious point, I'll help you derive an answer a simple question: What has college actually done for you? What ingredients has Nicholls mixed into the recipe of your being?

Instead of simply making a list of these things, I think it's much more meaningful and memorable to answer through metaphor.

Editorial about SGA inaccurate

Dear Editor,

I am writing concerning the editorial in the April 10, 2008, Nicholls Worth, titled "SGA should be the students' voice."

I want to clear up something that was incorrect in the article. The editorial accused the Student Government Association of holding its annual 5K Walk/Run to benefit the community and not the students.
