Breaking News: Nicholls Chief Financial Officer resigns amid budget crisis

The Nicholls Worth just learned that Chief Financial Officer Ronnie Rodriguez has resigned.

The University issued the following statement.

Nicholls State University President Bruce Murphy announced this morning that Chief Financial Officer Ronnie Rodriguez has accepted another position within the state and will begin his new duties after April 1, 2016.

“During these difficult budget times, Ronnie has done an excellent job in helping Nicholls implement innovative budget strategies and efficiencies,” Murphy says. “I’m grateful for all the work Ronnie has done to reform the Nicholls budgeting process by bringing together a great group of employees from across campus to review the budget and create more transparency. While I am sad to see Ronnie go, I know this decision was made in the best interest of his family, and I wish him great success in his new position.”

Nicholls will name an interim CFO in the coming weeks and will immediately begin a search to permanently fill the position.

“Deciding to take another position has been bittersweet,” Rodriguez says. “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Nicholls and appreciate the opportunities, additional knowledge, experiences and challenges that this position provided me. I have made new friends and reunited with many others. With the budget challenges facing Nicholls, I know this is horrible timing for my departure. However, my new position will allow additional financial growth for me and my family. While I love Nicholls and did not intend to leave until retirement, this was too good of an opportunity for me and my family to pass up.”

The Nicholls Worth will update this story as it develops.
